Andrew Pietsch was born in Kraków on August 13, 1932. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków from 1951 to 1958, after which he was awarded the title of professor. As vice-rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, he collaborated with several Polish universities in Poznan, Katowice, Lublin, and Cieszyn. He served twice as President of the Krakow International Graphic Arts Biennial. This engraver was also a mountaineer, particularly during the years 1951–1957, and the theme of the mountains often influenced his work. He passed away on November 30, 2010.
